Girl Power!!

We proved that even girls can build a cabin. We knew we could do it, but the guys had some doubt. Boy did it feel good to prove them wrong. We rocked. We moved all the wood from up on the road to the cabin, moved tons of block as well. Then they needed the rebar moved, but thought they would just do it later. Yeah we even moved that.

Labor Day!!

It was a true Labor Day in September 2007. The Lott's (all but Katelyn and Kyle, who stayed with Grandma) Grandpa, Todd, Bryan (Lara stayed home with Sara & Blake), and Jamie and her friend Nell all went to work on the foundation wall at the cabin. Bryan had his doubts that we would be any help, but he had to admit that he was wrong by the end of the day. Austin had the most fun, he didn't realize that he was working. His job was to pick up all the small pieces of block that were cut down, he was so good at his job we ran out of room to put the pieces.

Here are all the guys pondering on placement of the blocks. (This happened quite a bit, I think they were just delaying to make the girls and kids work harder)

Grandpa got the fun job of bending and cutting the rebar. His arms were sore for weeks!

We had a great picnic lunch at the pavilion and then more work in the afternoon. We were there all day and got so much done.

Foundation Wall

We chose to do a block system foundation wall. We could do it by ourselves and it helps insulate the basement. It went up pretty fast and was fairly easy to do.

Footings and Foundation

September 1, 2007 - Footings are done, we are ready to start on the foundation wall.

Construction Begins!

Aug 2007 - Construction finally begins. The hole was dug, the foundation wall blocks were delivered, and the footings were framed. On August 31, 2007 the footings were poured. The whole family was so excited to get this project started, it was about time!!

Picnic Area

There is a great common area at Aspen Cove. It has a covered picnic area with six tables, BBQ grills, water, a toilet (the most important thing), swing set, basket ball court and tennis courts. There are few more things that I can't think of right now.

When we visited in June, 2007, we took a great picnic lunch and the kids had a blast on the swing set and the basketball court.

Many Visits to the Lot

We were excited even before the construction began and made many trips to the lot.

Sep 2006 - We are able to enjoy lots of different wild life at the cabin.

Oct 2006 - We took Doug & Lissa to see the property. The kids had so much fun running around the property. They didn't let the cooler weather, dirt and sage brush ruin their fun.

April 2007 - The guys took Uncle Steve to see the lot.

June 2007 - We enjoyed a nice summer day, it was great weather! We are getting anxious for the construction to begin!!

Our Family Cabin

Grandma wanted a place to keep everyone updated on the construction of our family cabin. Hope you enjoy!! This is our lot. It is full of sagebrush right now, but with that view you can see it's got lots of potential. We are really excited for it to be done!!
